The Pipettes return with new single for March
February 6th, 2006
SINGLE RELEASED 27TH March 2006 on Memphis Industries
“Boy! Get out of my face…”
THE PIPETTES follow up last Autumn’s “Dirty Mind” single with a bold, brash and beautiful new recording of live favourite “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me” on March 27.
“Your Kisses…” will once again be available on CD and 7” format with exclusive bonus tracks. The 7" will be backed by a sweeping orchestral version of the A-side - given the inspired title “Your Guitars Are Wasted On Me” - while the CD will feature exclusive Spector-esque acoustic re-workings of ‘Judy’ and ‘Dirty Mind’.
Last year saw The Pipettes complete successful headline tours in the UK and Europe, as well as high-profile support slots with The Magic Numbers, Graham Coxon, British Sea Power and The Go! Team, that has won them fans in high places including Radio One DJ Huw Stephens - “Dirty Mind” scored highly in the first post-Peel Festive Fifty, and Huw has pushed the girls forward as his one and only tip for greatness in 2006.
The girls ended last year with a pair of jubilant sold-out London Christmas shows on the same night – at Tapestry and Koko – and they are already gearing themselves up to make 2006 their biggest year yet. They have spent most of January recording a debut album for Memphis Industries (The Go! Team, Field Music, Dungen, Absentee etc) with Andy Dragazis (Blue States) and Gareth Parton (The Go! Team) at the desk.
The Pipettes (Becki, Gwenno and Rose) and their backing band The Cassettes formed at a seaside party in Brighton and have since wowed audiences with their trademark polka dot dresses, doowop anthems and choreographed hand movements.
The matching dresses have had a remarkable influence on the tastemakers of the UK. Polka dots are officially back this season, thanks in no small part to the blazing spectacle of The Pipettes’ poptastic live show.
The girls will be dragging The Cassettes around the country to promote the new release, which is preceded by a specially re-recorded version of another live favourite, “It Hurts To See You Dance So Well”, for the Rough Trade Counter Culture ‘Best of 2005’ compilation CD.
