EUROS CHILDS (GORKY’S ZYGOTIC MYNCI) RELEASES DEBUT SOLO ALBUM IN FEBRUARY 2006
SINGLE ‘DONKEY ISLAND’ OUT 28TH NOVEMBER
Euros Childs, frontman of much loved Welsh psych-folk pop quartet Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci since his early teens, is set to release his first solo album in February 2006.
"I didn’t want it to be some heavy, introspective thing", says Childs, "That would have been a bit boring for me, let alone everyone else".
Instead, enthused by the idea of making a whole record on his own, Euros decided to get "as close as I could to party music". The result, a deliciously meaty thirty-three minute feast called Chops, is anything but boring. In fact, from the terrifying Vangelis-meets-Black-Lace disco blowout of ‘Donkey Island’, to the exquisite closing eight minute techno/folk crossover landmark ‘First Time I Saw You’, this record packs more musical ideas into its compact running time than most people manage in their entire career.
The aforementioned ‘Donkey Island’ will be released as a single in November. The inspiration behind the song? "I was on holiday once" Euros remembers, "I can’t remember if it was in Turkey or Greece, but a bloke was selling trips to ‘donkey island’, and I envisaged someone being shipwrecked and having to adapt".
Single: ‘Donkey Island’ Formats: 7” (with exclusive b-side ‘Y Mwnci Drwg’) and digital download Label: Wichita Recordings Web: www.euroschilds.com

With Tournament of Hearts the Constantines return with a record of desire: songs about nurses and marriage; songs about northern latitudes; songs about work and the weather; songs about loving. Ever gentlemen, this is not the telling after the kissing. These are the secret manifestos, an album heavy with the knowledge that the only truths worth telling are those truths told by lovers. Such truths are fleeting and disordered. It’s best to hurry, and to hurry hard.
Recorded in their hometown of Toronto at Halla Studios with Jeff McMurrich (Sea Snakes, Picastro, Hidden Cameras) Tournament of Hearts is the Constantines third full-length album. It follows two critically acclaimed albums released through Three Gut Records in their native Canada and Sub Pop for the rest of the world: 2001’s Constantines (reissued on Sub Pop in 2004) and 2003’s Shine a Light. We can speak of their passports: the Constantines have toured the US, Canada, Europe and the UK, playing shows with the likes of The Weakerthans, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Lungfish, Don Caballero, The Arcade Fire, Oneida, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Guided by Voices. We can speak of their festive spirits: happy participants at SxSW, NxNE, CMJ, The Village Voice Siren Music Festival, All Tomorrow’s Parties (LA 2004, curated by Isaac Brock), Montreal Pop Explosion, and, significantly, the Dawson City Music Festival. Truths were revealed on the tundra and by the midnight sun.

The Wandsworth Police have officially dropped the allegations against Patrick Wolf in the scandalous jewel theft debacle from July 2004. As previously mentioned this summer, Wolf was arrested in June 2005 and released on bail on suspicion of burglary when a neighbour accused him of stealing her jewels in Wandsworth the previous year.
The police have apologised to Patrick and are paying his solicitor fees for this incident.
Here at Team Wolf, we have long suspected these allegations would be dropped (he was not officially charged), but it is only now that Patrick can fully be a true "libertine".
He is currently supporting Bloc Party on their UK tour, finishing support on Friday, Oct. 28th at Brixton Academy. He will do a headline show Monday, Oct. 31st - a Halloween Samhain Spooktacular - in London at the Scala. It is expected to sell out within the next 24 hours.
Patrick Wolf’s new single and video "Tristan" is released on Monday, Oct 31st.

This has been knocking around for a few months now but is essential listening which in an ideal world would be in every ones top 10 albums at the end of the Year.
Mashing up a myriad of styles resulting in an album of brilliant and sometimes unnerving quality but total dancefloorability, you’ll find the influence of artists such as The Go-Team, Beck, Primal Scream, Soulwax, early New Order and sleazy garage rock which multi instrumentalist Nathan J Whitey has created by himself in other peoples studios using other peoples instruments.
In essence this is an instrumental album as the vocals on it are either mumbled or are backing vocals and it only adds to the otherworldly nature of the music. Tracks such as ‘YUH2BM’ and ‘Leave them all behind’ are monstrous bass led dancefloor killers soothed by the sweetest lo-fi on the beautiful ‘Can’t go out, can’t stay in’ and ‘Hahaha’.
With plaudits such as 2 Many DJ’s and Andy Weatherall dropping these scuzzed up punk tunes recorded on something cheaper than a shoe-string you know he’s doing something right and the fact that it’s, well, fucking brilliant, makes this an album to check if you haven’t done so already. 8/10

The failure of The Subways to reach the predicted meteoric rise to fame is an oddity.
In Billy Lunn they have a frontman fizzing with the same bristling energy of a young Paul Weller with the moves and lyrics to match. The onstage chemistry between him and bass playing girlfriend Charlotte is as intriguing to watch live as the music is exciting, whilst Josh is one of the best young drummers around frantically pounding his kit like a John Bonham on Class C’s instead of A’s so what’s the problem?
Well, being hand-picked by John Peel to play Glastonbury 2004 is the sort of move that could lead and probably has led to major jealousy from certain parts of the industry whilst having a major label giving them their full support (for now) probably doesn’t help, especially after the recent events concerning the Arctic Monkeys. Ssomething is happening behind the scenes to result in a distinct lack of airplay and column inches in the weekly rags.
So this, the fourth single from their classic packed debut ‘Youth for eternity’ is The Subways at a cross roads in their fledgling career, is this the one to do it?
Despite being a personal favourite from first hearing the album, it’s possibly the worst choice of single for the label to release, a brilliant album track but as a single a total misrepresentation of what The Subways stand for, hard edged punk pop instead of Oasis influenced ethereal ballad influenced pop.
Despite the odd quandry they currently find themselves in, this superlative track is not the song to set the wheels in motion and finally push them into the mainstream where they belong. It’s a damn shame but what a tune anyway, what you waiting for? Show your support!
