Top 10 acts to check out at this Years Carling Festival, August Bank Holiday
August 4th, 2006
So as most publications lick their lips at the bovine real rock antics of aging bores Pearl Jam and Placebo, here is a REJECT guide to the top 10 must sees at this Years Reading/Leeds Festival.
1. The Subways. Main stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th.
It’s been a long way back for vocalist Billy Lunn and his nodule problem but the power trio are finally on the comeback trail. They are easily one of the finest live bands out there at the moment and finally moving up the lists for fesivals, they will easily shine in their late afternoon slot
2. Radio Soulwax - Dance stage. Leeds 25th August/Reading 27th August - 2 Many DJS, Soulwax, Vitalic, Erol Alkan
3. Primal Scream. NME Stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th
So, the latest album isn’t everyones cup of tea, deservedly in parts but Bobbie and co are a top festival draw apart from last Years horrendous appearance at Glastonbury
4. Franz Ferdinand - Main stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th
5. Arctic Monkeys. Main Stage. Leeds Sunday 27th August/ Reading Saturday 26th
Probably too high up on the bill, warming up for Muse but they’ve earnt their place to be there, let’s just hope they finally realise they are as animated as propped up corpses on stage and do something about it.
6. The Fall. NME stage. Leeds Sunday 27th August/ Reading Saturday 26th
A recent tour of the States ended up in a mass brawl and all the band bar Mark E Smith and his wife leave him stranded in the states, expect more drunken shenanigans. Whatever he’s drunk on….it won’t be Carling
7. Mumm-Ra. Carling Stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th
First on the bill this Year, expect them nearing the top of all bills next year, greatness awaits for this great 5 piece
8. Duels. NME Stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th
9. Bodycount feat Ice-T. The Lock-up stage. Leeds Saturday 26th August/ Reading Friday 25th
Not for any musical enjoyment of course but the sheer spectacle and to hear Ice T rap the lyrics to Evil Dick and Voodoo, at his age he really should no better. I saw Bodycount in Bradford 1992 and I stage dived so many times that they crowd eventually parted so I landed head first and broke my arm…wankers, stupidly the exact same thing happened a Year later at a Fishbone gig, the folly of youth.
10. Muse. Main Stage. Leeds Sunday 27th August/ Reading Saturday 26th
